Iran’s ‘Shadegan’ awarded at European documentary festival IDFA

Iranian short doc ‘Shadegan’ is awarded at the Int'l Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam in the Netherlands.

Iranian short documentary ‘Shadegan’ has been awarded at the 2020 International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) in the Netherlands.

‘Shadegan’, directed by Ako Salemi, won the Award for Best Children’s Documentary at the Dutch festival.

The 15-minute documentary is about a teenage whose livelihood depends on fishing in the Shadegan wetlands in Iran’s southwestern province of Khuzestan.

The IDFA announced the winners of the competition programs during its 2020 Awards Ceremony which took place online on Thursday.

The ceremony came while this year’s edition of the festival still has more days to run.

The IDFA began on November 16 and will run until December 6.

‘Shadegan’ has previously participated in the 2020 Visions du Réel Film Festival in Switzerland and the 2020 New Orleans Film Festival in the US.
